Checked October 6, 2026. In Germany, Google’s consumer Gemini plans currently range from €0 to €219.99 per month. Google AI Plus starts at €4.99/month, AI Pro is €21.99/month, while AI Ultra is €99.99/month for the 5× tier and €219.99/month for the 20× tier. Developer API usage is billed separately by model, tokens, cache, and tools. [S01][S02][S09]
Timing matters this week. Google says the no-subscription tier changes on October 9, 2026. After the change, free users get Flash-Lite only. AI Plus will retain Flash-Lite and Flash but lose Pro once its change takes effect; Google says Plus subscribers will receive the effective date by email. AI Pro and AI Ultra retain Flash-Lite, Flash and Pro. [S03][S32]
Germany consumer plan pricing

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | €0 | €0 | 15 GB | baseline | Flash-Lite |
| AI Plus | €4.99 | €59.88 | 400 GB | 2× Free | Flash-Lite, Flash |
| AI Plus 2 TB | €9.99 | €119.88 | 2 TB | Plus tier | Flash-Lite, Flash |
| AI Pro | €21.99 | €263.88 | 5 TB | 4× Free | Flash-Lite, Flash, Pro |
| AI Ultra 5× | €99.99 | €1,199.88 | 20 TB | 5× Pro | Flash-Lite, Flash, Pro |
| AI Ultra 20× | €219.99 | €2,639.88 | 30 TB | 20× Pro | Flash-Lite, Flash, Pro |
*Calculation: monthly price × 12. This is not a quoted annual contract price. Google says Gemini usage limits are compute-based and may vary with model, workload, experiments and availability. [S01][S02][S04]
Which tier makes sense?
After October 9, Free becomes a Flash-Lite-only option for personal accounts without an AI subscription. AI Plus becomes the lowest paid tier retaining standard Flash access, while AI Pro becomes the lowest regular tier that retains Pro after the announced access changes. [S03]
At €4.99, Plus is the value entry point if the standard Flash model and 400 GB storage are enough. The €9.99 Plus variant pairs the tier with 2 TB storage. [S01][S02]
At €21.99, Pro is roughly 4.4 times the price of the €4.99 Plus tier, but Google advertises four times the free-tier usage limit, 5 TB storage and Pro-model access after the October change. Ultra’s two tiers cost roughly 4.55× and 10× as much as Pro while advertising 5× and 20× Pro usage limits, respectively. Those multipliers should not be interpreted as guaranteed prompt counts because limits are compute-based. [S01][S04]
Student offer: one year of AI Plus at no charge
Google currently advertises one year of Google AI Plus free to eligible students and trainees in supported markets. Registration is valid through December 31, 2026; if not cancelled, the plan renews at the current €4.99/month including VAT. A valid payment method and eligibility verification/offer terms apply. [S07][S08]
Google’s German blog also references a separate Pro-oriented student offer in selected markets that can run for up to four years. Availability is market-specific, so readers should verify the live offer page rather than assuming every German student automatically receives four years of Pro. [S07]
Gemini API pricing
A Google AI subscription is not an API allowance. Gemini Developer API usage is metered separately. Google publishes list prices in U.S. dollars. [S09]
| Model | Standard input | Standard output | Key condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini 3.8 Flash | $0.75 / 1M | $3.75 / 1M | Intro price through Dec 31, 2026; $1.50 / $7.50 from Jan 1, 2027 |
| Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview, prompt ≤200k | $2.00 / 1M | $12.00 / 1M | >200k: $4.00 / $18.00 |
| Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite | $0.25 / 1M | $1.50 / 1M | Audio input $0.50 / 1M |
| Gemini Omni Flash | $1.50 / 1M input | $9.00 text output / $17.50 video output | Google states roughly $0.10/sec effective 720p video output |
Google’s model catalog lists Gemini 3.8 Flash as stable and Gemini 3.1 Pro as preview. [S09][S10][S11]
Gemini 3.8 Flash doubles in price on January 1, 2027
This is the largest near-term budgeting issue. The current introductory price is $0.75 input and $3.75 output per million tokens through December 31, 2026. On January 1, 2027, those rates become $1.50 and $7.50, a 100% increase. [S09][S11]
Batch or Flex can reduce the 2026 3.8 Flash token rates to $0.375 input and $1.875 output per million tokens for eligible asynchronous workloads. [S09][S13]
Three monthly API scenarios
The calculations below exclude search grounding, Maps, cache storage, media generation, taxes and other add-ons.
Formula: input millions × input rate + output millions × output rate.
| Monthly workload | Tokens | 3.8 Flash through Dec 2026 | 3.8 Flash from Jan 2027 | 3.1 Pro ≤200k |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light | 5M input + 1M output | $7.50 | $15.00 | $22.00 |
| Medium | 50M input + 10M output | $75.00 | $150.00 | $220.00 |
| Heavy | 500M input + 100M output | $750.00 | $1,500.00 | $2,200.00 |
For batch-eligible 3.8 Flash workloads, the same three 2026 scenarios would calculate to $3.75, $37.50 and $375.00. [S09]
Search grounding can dominate token cost
Google currently lists 5,000 free Google Search queries per month across Gemini 3.x models, then $14 per 1,000 search queries. One Gemini request can trigger more than one Google Search query, and each query can be billable. [S09]
A workload producing 50,000 search queries would therefore have 45,000 billable queries after the free allowance: 45 × $14 = $630. For research-heavy agents, tool usage can exceed the pure model-token bill.
Free API tier vs paid tier
Google’s developer pricing page describes the free tier as limited-access with free input/output tokens, while the paid tier adds higher capacity, caching and advanced models. The same page marks free-tier content as eligible for product improvement and paid-tier content as not used for that purpose. Regional additional terms—especially in the EEA—should still be reviewed for production deployments. [S09][S15]
Subscription or API?
Use a consumer subscription when you want a predictable monthly price for Gemini itself plus bundled Google storage/services. Use the API when you are building agents, automations, websites or products. The common budgeting mistake is treating AI Pro’s €21.99 subscription as an API flat rate. It is not. [S01][S09]
Bottom line: Separate subscription, API and the 2027 price jump
For most personal users in Germany, AI Plus at €4.99 is the cheapest meaningful paid tier. Users who need Pro-model access after the October access change need at least AI Pro at €21.99. Ultra starts at €99.99 and becomes defensible mainly for unusually high usage or bundled premium benefits. For developers, Gemini 3.8 Flash is inexpensive through the end of 2026, but production budgets should already model the announced 100% token-price increase on January 1, 2027. [S01][S03][S09][S11]
